The Games Room is a new annex to a Grade II listed house located in a quiet rural corner of Essex. The appearance and nature of the addition is honest in its modernity, while remaining sympathetic and modest to the listed building.
On arrival the new room creates a picturesque courtyard with the garages to the north and to the west overlooks the garden with fields beyond. The Games Room is another incremental addition to the country house meeting the requirements of 21st Century family life. The room is entered through a glazed link that connects the building to the main house.
Materials have been chosen to harmonize with the existing buildings. The walls are constructed of oak weatherboarding, putting the new building in relation to the stable/garage annex and its rural vernacular language. The walls to the pods, chimney stack and the hipped roof are clad in zinc.
